With Cooler Weather Comes Comfort Food!

There is no sight on earth more appealing than the sight of a woman making dinner for someone she loves. ~Thomas Wolfe

After Brian left Saturday morning for the weekend, I asked Ty what he wanted for breakfast. "We have Cookie Crisp, Count Chocula, Lucky Charms, oatmeal..." But he responds back with, "How about pancakes and bacon?" Serious? This isn't what I wanted to do. I don't like making a batch of pancakes only to let half of them go bad so I countered with, "Waffles and bacon?" We got a taker! Then he can have them for breakfast this week. Waffles are easier in the toaster than pancakes. So we had waffles and bacon. Ty was super excited to get extra pieces of bacon since there wasn't anyone there to share with!

*side note, when at the grocery store last night I wanted to pick up more bacon to have on hand at home. OK - so I like my bacon PREMIUM - center cut and it's not even a full pound it's 12 oz. I could not believe the price - $5.09!!! Ain't buying bacon til it's on sale. I think I mentioned in a comment on Dom's blog when I bought bacon last I got a heck of a deal at Hy-Vee. It was 2 for $5 and they offered $1 off coupons per pkg. on the shelf! What a steal! ; )

We did our fair share of eating out this weekend too. I was ready to cook at home. Last night, I suggested to Ty that we have breakfast pizza for dinner and then a ham, corn and potato soup on Monday night. He wasn't too sure of the soup until I showed him the picture but it didn't take him long to be convinced either.

Breakfast for dinner is a favorite of mine. Last nights dinner was so good. Tyler even had 2 pieces. My breakfast pizza is a crescent roll crust with sausage, hash browns, cheese then coated with an egg and milk mixture. Rachel would say, "YUM-O"!

Tonight's soup is new, I had cut it from the newspaper so I'll have to let you know how it turns out and if it's a keeper.

I made egg salad again yesterday. Got a little too much of the ground mustard. I thought it was going to be heavy in salt but it's definitely the ground mustard. Has a horseradish flavor to it, and I'm not one for that.

Next week I'll be hosting Thanksgiving at the Snyder home. I'm going to try an make a Turducken. Ever heard of it? It's a chicken inside of a duck inside of a turkey. Looks a little complicated, but what the heck! I can do it.

I'm pulling your wishbone. ; ) We'll have the usual 'too much carb' dinner. Turkey with cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, homemade rolls, pumpkin pie and apple cake and whatever else we desire. I would like to try something new but don't want to miss out on all the traditional dishes either!!! Please share with me your ideas of what you like to bring to the table for your Thanksgiving meals.

And after the meal I have suggested we take in "Four Christmases" for our annual movie.

Peace
