As Paul described in his Q&A session, most people who don't approve of the book hasn't even read it. One gentleman wrote/told many people of his disapproval and then read it and took back his statement. He went to see Paul and apologized. Paul was more than fine with it. He told the man, it was a more powerful statement of reconsidering his approval than had he approved it the first time.
"I think it opens people to the fact that there's a God out there that loves you more than you ever knew," said reader Dan Dickinson. - I cannot agree more with this statement. As for me, I knew there was God, but to have a relationship was very difficult. And as far as God being portrayed as a black women, why not? It very much parallels with the saying, "Live in such a way that those who know you but don't know God, will come to know God because they know you..." So that means God can be black, white, man or woman. Catch what I am saying? God can show us himself in any person.
And with Paul choosing to have God be a big black woman... Have you ever been comforted by such a person? I totally got it! There has been a couple of times in my life that I felt so scared and alone. And the only person there was to comfort me at those times were black women. (I'm getting sappy on you...) Me being held in their arms I felt immediate comfort and peace. I knew it would be OK. When I read the passage, I knew immediately how my relationship with God should feel.
Paul is asked about his book, "Is it real?". His reply is yes, it's real, it's just not true as it is fiction.
Read it and then you decide. I believe the main part of the story regards God's love, how can it be controversial?
