Babies are always more trouble than you thought - and more wonderful. ~Charles Osgood
Guess what I was doing 12 years ago today? I was welcoming my Ty Guy into the world!!! Oh and what a ride it has been. Each January 8Th I when I wake up in the morning, I think back to the hospital visit. I smile as I recall each little detail of the day I can remember...
It started on Jan 6Th 1997, I had went for a check up and they had decided to induce me. That's when I decided I didn't want to do this anymore! I had gone by myself to the check up so I drove myself home. And since I was in a state of panic, I almost got into an accident on the on ramp to 71 highway!
Once in the room they sat we up with the belt that monitors the baby's heartbeat. When I laughed it sounded like I was 'rapping'!
When they first tried to induced me they called it a 'medicated tampon', in which later I didn't see the resemblance.
When that didn't take effect, they gave me the 'pit', but then decided to take me off because there was another lady having a complicated birth with her twins.
By this time my Doctor has left the building and enters Dr. Crab Apple who I had a run in with at the office once or twice. Great - I thought.
My sister and her then boyfriend have an accident on the way to see me. It was ice and snow out. My visitors in day 2 (that nothing happened) were Bri, mom, Linds, Stac. That evening Jerry came by he left after 'Roseanne'. But was there for my first contraction that 'kicked my butt'.
Later that night my water finally broke. (Now, I always mention that I never understood why woman couldn't tell if their water broke or not. As they say it's like peeing your pants. Duh! I would be able to tell that!!!) I'm here to tell you - I wasn't for sure... I had been poked and prodded so much that I thought I lost some use of muscles. The nurse tested it and sure enough here goes nothing...
It was a long, long night of pain. All in my back too. Let me stop here and give my applause to Bri for capturing it on tape - thanks dude. They administered the epidural which only numbed by boobs. No help whatsoever.
My mom, bless her heart, didn't realize my focal point was my water cup and was in the way of it. Then tried to hand it to me as I worked through a contraction.
Dr. Crab Apple, dressed in his nice street clothes, came to put in my catheter in. Guess who peed all over him!? ;D DON'T mess with me, I'll get you back!
Stac comes to visit again and hears, "You can start pushing anytime." as she rounds the corner to my room!
The baby (as we don't know the sex at this point) is stuck and doctors & nurses decide to do an emergency c-section.
I plead to put me under, I REALLY don't want to do this anymore.
I remember about 10 seconds of the operating room...
When I start to slowly wake up in recovery I hear my mom, whose holding my hand, tell me we had a little baby boy... I smiled real big as my eyes remained closed.
On the way back to the room, they asked me if I wanted to see him. He was in the nursery as he needed extra oxygen. I looked over and there he was with his head in what looked to be like a cake dome.
Later they brought him into me, I CANNOT BELIEVE HE IS MINE!!!
Dad, Susan and Mary come that night to see us or rather him. ; )
Sherry came and was there when I changed his first diaper, I was scared.
We had a lot of visitors.
I developed an infection so my visit was a week. Which was fine with me, I wanted all the pampering I could get because I knew it would soon be over! I didn't even feel bad when I had Ty sleep in the nursery.
I will never forget Martha, she was my first nurse and the BEST ever. She took such good care of me. I didn't want her to leave me and even wanted to take her home.
When we did get to go home, Wayne drove me and Ty and Brian followed. It was the coldest day yet of that winter. Wanda met us at home with a bunch of sleepers and a friend of theirs sent a bunch of clothes as well.
dOg took to Ty very well or as well as expected. There was the instance of chewing up the breast pump and eating a brownie. I joke now that he wanted a snack of milk & brownie! ; )
And there you have it - they start of a wonderful family. Oh we have had our ups and downs. Along with trials and errors - but its lessons learned that continues to make us wiser.
Peace.

I so remember that day too! And I remember almost barging in as they tell you that you could push! I so did not want to help with the delivery!
Ty is such a handsome guy that is very caring. You have done so well in raising him. I love that you can sit down and have a conversation with him and you don't even realize you are talking to a kid. He is always polite to women too. He is just plain "all right" in my book!
I am off to email him a Happy Birthday note right now!!!
