Arithmetic is numbers you squeeze from your head to your hand to your pencil to your paper till you get the answer. ~Carl Sandburg, "Arithmetic"
Tyler is learning to work the problems backwards, right? In the mean time you are to try guessing and looking for patterns. OK, so I wrote out the problem like this -
1/2 - Elephants
1/4 - Big Cats
1/8 - Camels
1/16 - Horses
8 - Monkeys
See a pattern? If going in order the next fraction would be 1/32 (if you halved 1/16). So assume 8 = 1/32 & 8 x 32 = 256 & 256 would be the total of animals. So all you would do from this point would be 256/2, 256/4, 256/6 and so forth to get the number of each animal. That would mean -
128 - Elephants
64 - Big Cats
32 - Camels
16 - Horses
8 - Monkeys
But then you add them up & it only comes up to 248. 8 shy of the 256, how can that be!?! This is when we gave up and went to bed. But Bri finally thought it through. 8 doesn't = 1/32 - 8 = 1/16! There were not 256 animals but only 128!
64 - Elephants
32 - Big Cats
16 - Camels
8 - Horses
8 - Monkeys
Ty came home and called me - His "homework" was actually morning work for yesterday to do at school, what he didn't finish at school would be homework for last night! aye aye aye!
Peace

I still can't like it. My head hurts even thinking about numbers. There is no way I could go back to doing ANY kind of math class what so ever! Have a great weekend!
Quit posting stuff that makes me want to drink large amounts of alcohol and take a nap.
