I want a fun job! - Lindsay Welsh
I've been in my current job since April 2000. It will be 13 years on Oct 18th that I've been with Sprint. I'm ready to move on to something new. I've recently applied for 3 jobs, two are "under review" status and the other one stated "not selected". And that was 2 days after I applied! How do they know what I have to offer? I believe they already had someone in mind. At Sprint, let's say your changing positions in your same group. The manager has to post that job so that it's "fair" for everyone to apply. - I don't get it?!? What a waste of time for a lot of people! Err. I think that policy needs to be changed, it doesn't benefit ANYONE. We all know the troubles Sprint has endured and with that comes job cuts and fewer jobs. I've often dream about leaving and going back to the salon. But the only way I see me going back is if I get pushed out of this comfort zone I'm in. Few years back, I was truly hating (a word I try to avoid) my job. My dad's advise was just to come in put my head down and do my job and leave at the end of the day. He let me know that I had a good thing going. True. We always think the grass is greener on the other side don't we? Sprint pays nice, good benefits and a great vacation pkg. Why jeopardize that? (And this is where I teeter) Because I want to do something I can feel good about. Something thats self gratifying. I know it sounds hoky, but its true. I want my cake and to eat it too! Until I figure out what I want to be when I "grow up", here's something I found that I hope to remember at my next interview...

Ten Things You Should Never Say During A Job Interview
Looking for a new job? Unfortunately, you'll probably have to interview for the position. Here are a few things to avoid in that stressful moment.
(NOTE: Don't be stupid enough to actually try any of the items below, or you'll find yourself in jail, in the hospital, or, even worse, in the unemployment line!)
Oh, my criminal record? Well...if it helps, I didn't pull the trigger.
If it involves sitting around doing nothing, I'm your man!
Are you busy later? I know a great little Italian place.
Wait, you wanted someone with at least a high school diploma? Nevermind.
References? That may be a problem due to those stupid restraining orders.
Aren't you Rachel's dad? Man, she's one wild and crazy chica!
Do you mind if I light up?
Where do I see myself a year from now? Sitting in your chair, actually.
Sorry if I'm not up to par this morning...I still have a nasty hangover.
Before we start the interview, can I get an advance on my pay? My bookie's an impatient man.

Kel, I can totally relate to how you are feeling. I want to do something that is more gratifying yet in order to do so I would have to take a huge cut in pay. One thing I always remember my dad telling me is to love what you do and not do it for the amount of pay I would get. Now trying to convince my husband of that is totally out of the question right now. I always tell Sean I am not going to look back on my life and be so thankful for all the time I gave DST. I would rather have something to look back on that said I made a difference somewhere. I totally feel you, sister, and will keep my ears open for you!
Back when I worked in HR I couldn't believe the way people acted during the interview process. We had people bring their McDonald's, eat it in the lobby, and leave their trash. We had people bring their mom, dad, aunt, uncle, and cousins with them to the interview. And yes, we have even had candidates ask our recruiters out on dates during the interview! There are some strange cookies out there!
Just one little tip...
try not to be specific when blogging about your place of employment. I've heard of some bad things happening to ppl who talk about their job, or co-workers.
