This was my nickname my grandma had for me growing up, later I gave her the nickname "Woo Woo" then shortened to "Woo". - Thanks for the well wish - I did enjoy my day!
I was excited for Friday night’s game, left the office early and headed to the fields. While the boys were warming up the common bleachers were filling up. A little boy (about 5) sat beside me and asked who I was cheering for, I told him the Bulldogs and asked if he was too (I knew he was from the other team). He told me no he’s cheering for the other team. I said, “But we’re a good team”. He though about it for a second and replied, “But we’re better.” Priceless!
We played the Blue Valley Storm and loss the coin toss so we batted first (we were visitors). 3 up 3 down. That’s ok; means were going to have a good game. That is if the boys from the other team would swing their bats. Home plate Umpire wasn’t calling strikes for NOTHING! I was getting so irate!!! 14 walks later we finished the inning. Our coach approached Blue (the ump) trying to ask were the pitcher was missing. Blue didn’t care for the approach and turned nasty. I mentioned previously our coach is competitive – but he’s also respectful.
Again our boys swung their bats. 3 up, 3 down. They took the field and again the other boys still held their bats on their shoulders waiting to be walked. I THINK THIS IS A PRETTY LOW LAME WAY TO WIN A BASEBALL GAME. SHAME ON YOU BV STORM!!! Our coach brought in his youngest son to pitch. (He wasn’t wasting our good pitchers on this game.) Oh the kid was ecstatic to pitch!!! His pitches were so erratic some not even close to the plate and way over anyone’s head! Our anger soon melted to humor; laughing it off.
Needless to say it was a somber game. We were beaten by a nasty run spread.
Saturday morning’s game at 8am was a whole other story. Our boys brought their A game and won. Our 10am was a little shakier; our boys can mentally fall out of a game as quick as they can get into it. Can a whole ball team have ADD? We were losing, then tied, then ahead! Woohoo! All we had to do was hold ‘em! Then lightening struck – ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The field was cleared until it was safe. About 5 mins later they were back. Within that 5 those boys apparently forget bases were loaded and they had to protect. Catcher let a ball get by him and 3rd stole home. Then the batter got a hold of the ball and sent it for a ride….
That’s all she wrote for that game. We lost. But the coach was pleased; he didn’t mind losing that way. Rain poured after we had packed up the equipment and headed for the cars. A long walk back, everyone was soaked by the time we got to the truck. I tried to see results of the tourney – I’m not even sure they were able to finish. I was hoping the other teams would hand BV Storm their butts. I’d be happy!
Tonight we play a league game against a pretty intense team. I hope the rain will hold off! I’ll report result tomorrow.
